Stephanie made this Cap today, it's made with a ball of one thin piece of knitted stretchy fabric, she didn't quite know what to do with it and didn't like what she started doing below... so she undid it... but she did go home with the cap.

I ummed and ahhhed about which group of photos I should put up first, I started taking photos of the Food so I guess that's the way I should go... I know this is supposed to be a Quilting Blog but look at these delicious meals.

Roasted Pumpkin Salad - Pumpkin, candied walnuts, peppered goats cheese, watercress and fig.

Pale Ale Beer Battered 'Fish of the Day' - chips and tartare sauce.

Pizza - Garlic Prawn, grilled speck, heirloom tomatoes and basil.

Rueben Beef Burger - Prime Wagyu beef pattie with shaved pastrami, sauerkraut, thousand island, Swiss cheese, mustard and dill Pickles.

Salt and Szechuan Peppered Calamari - with Asian slaw and chilli mayo.

Chicken Summer Salad - Chicken, lettuce, alfalfa, caesar dressing, pistachio crumbs, maple bacon and egg.

Blue Gum Beef Burger - Prime Wagyu beef pattie with lettuce, vine ripened tomatoes, cheddar cheese, beetroot tepanade, caramelised onions, pickle, hickory BBQ sauce and Ranch Dressing.

Homemade Chicken, Leek and Mushroom Pie with Mashed Potato and apricot relish.

Chicken Burger - Southern spiced chicken breast, avocado, lettuce, cheddar cheese, mayo and tomato relish.

Slow Roasted Pork Belly - potato and apple salad with mango puree.

Canadian Belgian Waffles - hokey pokey ice cream, maple syrup and Persian Floss.

Was this Ros Hack's quilt top? You see the trouble is a couple of people said to me today that they didn't know how I remembered who's quilt was whose... and now I've gone and forgotten! Darn!

This is one for Sharon's son, I remember that... as is the pretty one below.... I think! :-)

The group of Willoughby Girls High ex students behind us asked to see the quilts as well and gave great applause.

Stephanie is plodding away on her star quilt. Have you seen these plastic templates before, aren't they beaut, Steph says they work wonderfully well. I want some of these.....

Ros is making this little 'thing' as a gift for a SCQuilter, I've photographed it from the back so you can't tell who it's for... or can you?

Lillias is quilting this little quilt for her new grandson.

Lynne is making this as a Christmas gift as well.

And... finally... Liz, plugging away on her Aussie quilt. She says she'll have the blocks together by the January Gathering... but she didn't say 'all' the blocks or which January but that's okay it's lovely watching it's progress.

#5 The Presents! The wonderfully 'Re-Cycled' Presents, some of which come back year after year and our most precious re-cycled present of all is... 'The Galleon' which was first gifted way back in 2006!

Ros chose some lovely gifts from Thailand. We wondered what was inside that little present on the right, The Fox Collection?

Aaahhh yes, very handy :-)

Erica was lucky, she tells us she hasn't got this magazine.

Lisa went for the pack of 50 - or was it 500? Muffin cases and some patterns.

(Yes it was 500, what an enormous pack.)

But the Winner of the Day... was Rita! What could be more fitting for one of our newer members... to win that, 'much sought after' Galleon Decanter! Look after it Rita :-) It's been coming back for 5 years now. I wonder who bought it the first time?

If it was you could you let us know, it needs to go with its Provenance! First Gillian, then Ros B, Heather, then Ros H. and now Rita gets to look after it for a year.

No... sorry Rita, the Galleon is empty, not that anyone would know the cork is stuck in the neck and has been for years! But don't you think it's pretty :-)

You can see how much Stephanie loves her gift, it's a pack of plastic Finger Plates, ideal for those busy parties when you need an empty hand, just pop one of these little plates over your finger and bob's your uncle, you can chat, eat, and drink at the same time. LOL I found these in my Mum's things, aren't they wonderful!

Lillias looks like she just loves her little Pot-Pourri, I hope it smells nice Lillias.

Liz thinks these Rose smelly things will be just perfect for her teenagers LOL Nah! I just made that up!

Another very happy customer, although I don't think this is supposed to go on your head Lynne, suits you though.

There were some other very handy goodies in with Lynne's tea cosy.

Irene received a lot of goodies in her gift as well.

Heather and I were last to choose, Heather was a winner that's for sure, she loves this 2012 Diary!

And I just love my gift as well, I can see this going to one of my children, don't you think it would look good in Newtown?? Or maybe Canberra??

LOL I don't think they will read this Blog so it will stay a surprise!

Aren't they precious? It's called the '7 piece Extended Party cordial set'. I wonder why they are called that and I wonder what one is supposed to put in them? No recipes came in the box. It's 'seven' piece! The tray being the seventh! Wonderful gift, thanks Irene :-)

I wasn't able to go last weekend, but my trusty friend Claire took lots of photos for us all. Thanks Claire :-)

The first two quilts were made by Kyishia, nice and fresh and summery aren't they, just perfect for the odd cool evening in Summer.

Here is a striking looking quilt from Stephanie.

Gay Jenkins from Romsey in the UK sent me a photo for this quilt all about New York! Gay has just celebrated her 80th Birthday and she's still making quilts for all her Grandchildren.

This is what Gay wrote:- It was made from fabric (6 fat quarters) brought to me by Trudi, after their trip to NY. Olivia wanted a memento, Trudi said a cushion but Olivia was determined she wanted a quilt!

I hope you get to come back to Australia next year Gay. We miss you.

Rita has been very prolific this month, all the quilts below are her's. These first two quilts are Quilts for Valour and Rita is donating them to returned service men in the USA.

This is a Christmas Table Runner, Claire tells me the back is Halloween but she missed getting a photo of it.

Here is Rita's Jean Quilt, we saw the top last month and now it's all finished and for her BIL.

Look at these Belgium Waffles!!!!! Chocolate Ice Cream and Persian Floss! Claire asked me to guess who ordered it and it wasn't her... well it wasn't me either but I'm drooling here so I'd better go and get some breakfast and hope the culprit fesses up anytime soon :-) Yummo!

Jean - made this quilt with her 8 year old Grand Daughter who managed the sewing machine very well up to the last few bits, it's been machine quilted and Jean was sewing the binding down for her DGD.

Rita - is using all sorts of scraps for this quit, DD's school uniform included.

Pennie - I'm doing fine remaking this jumper for David, first made in 1967 but almost worn out now. Just 2/3rds of the last sleeve and I'm almost there.

Selina - made this very pink quilt for a friend who loves pink and just got married in Tasmania.

Sharon - is piecing away on this lovely quilt, still a fair way to go and she is dreading the arms that go on the heart shapes.

Becky - is knitting socks, she tells us she can make three socks from one ball of wool... that's handy isn't it :-)

Christine - is using up all her 1930's fabric for this pretty little hexagon quilt.

Our monthly gathering bought a couple of newbies along which was great and with only eleven of us there today the noise level was just the same as with double that number... gosh SCQuilters have a lot to say!!

Heathers candied hexagons are growing and growing... just take the time to check out some of the wonderful patterns that appear with the piecing... mostly Kaffe fabrics.

Joy is working on hexagons of a different style.

Lilias knitted this lovely soft cotton baby blanket for a grandchild yet to arrive, she put some soft flannel on the back and is thinking about tying the quilt together.

But look at this below.... a beautiful shawl for Lilias' daughter.

Two more of Liz's blocks... she stopped off at Craft Depot on her way to the Blue Gum today and found just the dog fabric she was needing to put in this quilt. Hurray!

I am very impressed with myself with the re knitting of this jumper I made David 44 years ago! The back is finished and the front started... the thing that impresses me the most is the fact that even though I found the old pattern I only need it for the number of stitches and the shaping of sleeves and so on... I know by the look and feel what stitch I need to do next! Who would have thought, after 44 years... I still have a memory! :-)

Free oranges to Blue Gum attendees... after an early morning start taking my DD1 Nerys and 5 year old grandson Charlie to his soccer game on Saturday Nerys freshly picked these oranges for me to share! They are delicious, I've just enjoyed a couple for breakfast :-)

This large wedding quilt is for someone who is colour blind, he loves it because he can see the pattern well.

Selina found this Blog online and as she lives near by decided to come and check us out, lovely to meet you! Sel was putting the finishing touches to this wonderful Batik Stack and Whack quilt.

I think this lovely WIP is a Karen Cunningham, bought to us today by new SCQuilter Sharon, from Dublin - oh what a beautiful accent.

Sue does the most delicate of patchwork... she made this pin cushion for a swap only to be told by her DH that she always gives her best things away... so she's making another one just for him! LOL

The Pork Belly with Apple Cider red cabbage and creamy apple sauce was popular and delicious I can tell you with first hand knowledge.

Crumbed Flathead with those beautiful beer battered chips looked yummo!

The Beetroot Ravioli was the most popular of all!

We all wondered how one ate these BBQed Beef Ribs so the consumer had a large audience to start with :-)

These two photos were sent by Gay Jenkins, now in Romsey, England. Below is her description... Pretty impressive eh! Thanks for sending Gay.

Just to show you what my group did for the exhibition; and the ceiling in Madrid cathedral that  was the starting point. I gave all the girls a copy of the strip, with the triangles carefully marked out, and the edges etc.  I gave them calico to trace it onto, and freezer paper to make templates, and the two green fabrics, as all the strips had to have the identical triangles.  The other half was at their imagination.  

The two photos below are from Ros Bickford, who has moved from Mount Colah to Harden.

The above is a wedding quilt for a niece and below is a 'sit up' cushion for a great niece... love all three of them :-) Thanks for sending Ros.

Beck knitted this Shawl.

Beck's (I'm never doing this again) Round Robin. This is the first time Beck has joined in an online Round Robin and she found it very stressful but Wow! What a result.

Our Buzzer Quilts - When I spoke to Peter at The Blue Gum, he suggested that we'd told a little white lie in the newspaper article, which white lie in particular I asked, the one about the quilts for the Lunch Buzzers he replied. Here are some of our Buzzer Quilts Peter, they help to soften the noise when they go off to tell us our meal is ready.

Kath is prolific as ever, she's digging deep into her UFO pile... a couple of these below, are for a Charity.

These are hexagons and made of silk, the quilt is intended for the Anniversary of friends of Cath's, which is coming up soon.

This is Claire's 'T' Shirt Quilt, made from 'T' Shirts from school, overseas trips and just favourites. Doesn't that beaut border bring it together wonderfully, but how to quilt it! That is the question.

This quilt of Marilyn's is absolutely enormous, I love the circular quilting, really makes the quilt I think.

This is my Show and Tell. I knitted this jumper for my friend 44 years ago, he loved it so much he decided we should marry, so I knitted myself one as well. His is almost worn out but mine is in perfect condition (well maybe that's because mine shrunk in the cupboard and I haven't worn it as much). Anyway I had thrown out the pattern and then decided I needed to knit this jumper again so with a little clever searching I found the original pattern on Ebay... now to find the same wool... Villawool which is no longer available :-(

Rita did show us her Hexagon WIP upside down but we had so much trouble trying to work out what the pattern was she turned it up the right way! Can you see what she is making a picture of? Hint, there is a lot more to go on the right of this picture.

Lynne is making this beaut star quilt for her Grandson's 8th birthday, he requested no flowers and green, his Mum suggested some blue as well. I love the border on this quilt, simple but very effective.

Meet Kerrie Davis and Yie Sandison who came from one of our local Magazines called 'Northside' check it out, there is a beaut article by Kerrie about a couple of Sisters on Page 10.

Kerrie asked lots of questions, while Yie took lots of photos and hopefully we will see the article in next weeks magazine. What a fun day it was, lots of chat, laughs and terrific food but boy oh boy how wet can it be in one day!

We enjoyed some Show and Tell as well. Here is Glynis' flower quilt, very Wow isn't it.

Lynne whipped this little beauty up this morning after hearing of the birth of a friends daughter, she's going to embroider in the white squares.

Our private room, that we don't pay for, had 25 paying customers today so we usually get moved to a bigger room nearby... but 45 paying customers booked that room... so we had to sit in the main bar which caused problems for Lissa who came all the way from the Newscastle area with her 15 year old daughter, children aren't allowed in the main bar of course. Sorry Lissa.

Everything was fine from 10am to about 1pm when our area started filling up with punters and the horse racing was turned up... slowly we departed but not before I became a little hoarse trying to talk over the commentators :-)

Lovely day though, always good sitting and sewing and chatting and laughing and catching up with friends... and the food was delicious as per usual!

Here it is, the photo of Jackie's sewing room at her place of work. Jackie works in the City and in her lunch break and spare time makes quilts along with some of the others there, some of the quilts are for employees who need a little TLC. Isn't this a brilliant idea! Wonderful space, lots of light and what a wonderful and productive way to unite your fellow workmates :-) Thanks for the photo Jackie.

Jackie travels about one hour to work in the city each day, by bus, she sits back and stitches there and back hence all these wonderful blocks.

Well there is no doubt about it... Kath won Show and Tell today... not that there is a Competition of course :-) The quilts below are all Kath's, she hasn't been able to come for a while but she's certainly been busy hasn't she.

There were several correct entries for the 'guessing the object' competition in last months postings so all the names went into a hat and the winner was drawn out by David, my DH. The bell pictured was indeed a Camel Bell. Jenny (who used to live in Jerusalem) called it a Goat Bell which of course I had to Google to check and she is indeed correct so her name went into the hat as well.

Bec has been very diligent since the shock horror revelation that not a single SCQuilter had bought Show and Tell last month, here is her first piece. This quilt is turning out fantastically isn't it.

And her Stars below... Wow!! We are all very impressed Bec.

Jill whipped up this beauty using some fabulous fabrics designed by Lizzie House called 'Castle Peeps'.

And here is the quilt that Jill started making at the Blue Gum last month... Another little beauty.

Lovely babies quilt made by Heather.

Fabrics Heather 'Won' on Ebay, she bought boxes of end of bolts... they are 4 inches long and anything from 1 inch to 2 inches wide. Heather was asking for advice on how to put them together... no better place to ask than the Blue Gum on the first Saturday of each month :-)

Liz received a big round of applause for her Show today, we've seen the squares coming along for a year now and she now has half her quilt together... so stay tuned for more to come. Fascinating blocks all with stories to tell.

Brenda came along with her latest 'twelve by twelve' challenge, this months challenge is the Chartreuse... Wow! I never knew what the colour chartreuse looked like... I do now :-)

Brenda also bought along this wonderful book with the first 'twelve by twelve' quilts in it.

Lyn was just finishing off this crochet shawl... she said it was just a 'tripple stitch' for a non crocket-er that sounds very difficult!

This is an old Susan Claire pattern that Jean bought along, Jean's sister Shirley has made the same quilt.

This fabulous Duvet Cover was made by Marianne over Easter, she said she sewed and sewed and it wasn't till she finished the top that she decided to turn it into a cover, she's lined the top with Pellon and she's used Velcro to keep her duvet inside.

I had to leave the Blue Gum earlier than usual today, to go to another party... and look what happened after I left!! Dianne indulged in the Gelato with Persian Fairy Floss on top :-) How Yum does that look eh!

Look at us... Sweet Sixteen, that's who we are! Well I'm behind the camera. Lots of loud chat and laughter today at the Blue Gum but for the very first time EVER! In almost six years... that's more than 60 Gatherings @12 per year... there was no Show and Tell! To make up for our recalcitrant behaviour I have devised a couple of little Competitions for you to enter. Enjoy!

Last weekend I attend the SCQuilters Retreat in Kiama for the day, it was very heart warming to be told by several of the attendees how much they enjoyed our humble little Blue Gum Blog... or was that the Blue Glum Blob? the Blue Bum Glob? amazing what a comes out of my mouth sometimes!! LOL and I drink Water or Diet Coke!

Claire has just had a move so her quilting projects got a bit of a going over, above is an old Hydrangea pattern and below a lovely Celtic pattern. Claire also bought some fabrics she no longer needed to share out.

Bec is working on these wonderful blocks, she has many many more but I didn't have enough table space to put them all out! I wonder if we will see some of them put together next month!

I just wanted to run my hands through Marilyn's Suffolk Puffs, don't they look wonderful in this box.

Pennie's two Hexagons... This Grandmothers Flower Garden I bought as an original 1930's top, some of the fabrics were rotted so I repaired the top and have been hand quilting it forever and ever... but not very often, which could be the reason for the delay. In the meantime I needed some handwork for a 6 month overseas holiday so...

... I started this similar but different 1930's quilt below, I would like it to be the same size as the one above but keep getting bored so keep adding a different border...

this was the only quilt at the Blue Gum today.

Jean was under a lot of pressure today, I wanted her to finish this little block so I could take a photo of it and wouldn't let her catch her train till she had finished!! Hurray! isn't it a real cutie! and so well matched up.

Ros got a lot of work done on this lovely Sashiko which is a pattern bought on that recent SCQuilters Retreat Shopping Spree!

Ros made these two blocks in the Lyn Hewitt class down in Kiama last weekend.

My Lunch.... Spicy Cajun Soft Shell Crab Burger... when I took the top off I found the whole Crab! I often have soft shell crab in sushi rolls or other dishes but I've never seen the crab whole like this! Do I have to say it was absolutely Delicious!! It still looks it in the photo :-) The beer battered chips were pretty darn good as well!

I didn't take photos of any other meals, I just wanted to tuck into mine and besides the majority of us had the same! Yummylicious...

Above is an old quilt top I made about 12 years ago, it's been at the bottom of my ever growing UFO pile of tops all that time but I've almost finished it now and I'm going to give it to the very beautiful Vilma! Vilma is Nanny to my three wonderful Grandchildren in Macao, she is Filipino and not only looks after my grandchildren beautifully she also looks after their parents just as beautifully... It wasn't till this quilt was almost finished in Liuxin's quilting machine that I noticed one of the blocks is the wrong way around! Well if it's survived all these years without self distructing because of an error, I guess it can live plenty more LOL

Sue's absolutely spectacular quilt top, it even got a clap from one of the patrons of the Pub sitting on another table.

Heathers Show and Tell was the best though, we all love a baby so when Heather's daughter Belinda surprised us with little Samuel it was oooohhhhsss and aaaahhhhssss all around the room.

Oh! and Heather had a Quilt to show as well... one for Samuel when he's a bit older.

The two boys at the next table took a shine to this quilt so Heather had to do a special Show just for them :-)

I think Marianne must have half a dozen elves locked away in her sewing room. A bit like the Grimm's Fairytale 'The Elves and the Shoemaker'. Here is her version of the Bonnie K Hunter 'Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll' the instructions of which have been coming out on a weekly basis over the last 8 weeks. The Instructions for the final border were posted on Friday night but Marianne (and her Elves) had that border finished before 10am the next morning... not attached to the quilt mind you but ready to put on last night after the Blue Gum. I'll bet the whole top is finished now! Wonderful result, I just love her colour choices and wonder if I might change my fabrics before I get around to making this RRCB.

But wait... there's more... another quilt from Marianne.

Lisa is experimenting with some beautiful hand dyed wools, in this cushion she's used some of her own hand dyed fabric and some of the wools she bought in America... spectacular result isn't it!

Di has her beautiful blocks and the whole quilt together and was hand quilting it yesterday... it's been a while since we've seen the blocks... terrific result eh!

The SCQuilters Blue Gum Christmas Party is a much looked forward to event... mainly for the presents! We bring along something we wish to recycle. The gift has to be in good condition, never used and as awful as possible. I've been lucky some years, I've won a Popcorn Machine and some beautiful fake pink stones on jewelry, which was just perfect for my Grand Daughters Dressing up box.

Several gifts come back the following year which some dread but they are always good for a laugh.
I loved the look of that red parcel that looked a bit like a Santa. I would have liked that present just for the bag it was in...

Cate cannot control her excitement and delight with her win of this beautiful Angel! I wonder if her little girl is still loving it :-)

Every few months or so Bec drags these stars out from the bottom of her cupboard and adds some more to this spectacular quilt... it's coming along nicely isn't it!

Can you read who this quilt has been made for? and why? and by whom? This is the fifth quilt I've made similar to this one and I love it when the siblings of the little one receiving the quilt are just as excited as I am when they are first seen... lots to see for a little boy here.

100 Hearts for Jackie's daughter, each heart has a special message and there is one more message on the back of the quilt.

I really loved making this quilt, from my stash, we received the instructions at the beginning of each month and had no idea what we were making, I have to admit that there were many times (especially making those little one inch coloured blocks) that I wondered where on earth we were going... but when it came together... WOW! I love it... Most Funky of all!

Jackie made this Cat quilt for her sister who loves cats... lucky sister eh!

Glynis couldn't show you guys the front of her quilt because it's going in a Magazine, but she showed us... it's a real beauty using some red and cream fabrics, the quilting you can see, makes the quilt look totally different from the front. Very clever Glynis!

Sarah is making large quilts now days. This is a really funky quilt used in the family room on these cool evenings.

Sarah was basting this quilt for her mother, lovely and bright isn't it, another large quilt from Sarah who we are used to seeing making the most magnificent mini quilts.

Jackie loves Red Work, here is another of her quilts using patterns copied from a child's colouring in book. Very clever.

Claire with a old quilt top from her stash, it's a Stack and Whack sort of block using a fabric with fans on it.

Marilyn was quick to tell us that she didn't choose the fabric but we were all very impressed with the way the water flows over the quilt and each block has a Crane in it.

Marilyn was binding this very simple but beautiful little quilt... We all loved and admired it, just perfect for using up some of your stash eh!

Jill is a bit shocked at how bright this quilt is turning out but we thought it was very Funky!

Penny finished her Homework... Hurray! Penny is learning Embroidery at classes held each month, she is very happy to have this month's homework finished and is ready for the next step.

After Lunch... One SCQuilter succumbed to the Belgium Waffles with Hokey Pokey Ice Cream... Yummo! ... The Waffles were so crunchy, the toffee in the Ice Cream was also wonderfully crunchy and the Maple Syrup... was real!

I wonder which SCQuilter it was?
OKAY Heather... you won! I did feel quite sick after...

Liz has started these sample blocks... she needed a change from Frogs and Owls.

Dianne has her bow ties together now and has started quilting. I love the way they've turned out after watching her making the blocks for a few months.

I have to admit... this Quilt of Sue's was my favourite for the day! Isn't it spectacular!
